Good afternoon and welcome to the seventh iteration of:
I hope you all had a good August and enjoyed your Labor Day weekend.August was quite a slow month in terms of breaking news in the world of SEO and backlinks. To nobody's surprise, Reddit only continues its steep ascent to the top of Mount Google:
So much so that Ahrefs cannot even fathom the volume of backlinks the website has.In other news, those in the SEO space were lucky enough to see yet another Google core update, this one with the exhilarating title of the "August 2024 core update".Whatever happened to the crazy and creative names behind updates? I miss the days of update names like Mobilegeddon, Panda, and Big Daddy. Even Fred was a fun one, but now all we get is *month* spam updates and helpful content. Anyways, here is last months best and brightest, so sit back and enjoy!
Cheers,
-J
HARO, or Help a Reporter Out, is an online platform where journalists post inquiries for experts to weigh in on topics they are covering. We monitor platforms like HARO daily for our clients and colleagues, and we often run into funny or downright odd requests. Some are just too good to not share...
Another gem from the archives, this time all the way back from 2022. After doing some good ol' research, I did find the article this HARO was for and it ranks quite well. With that being said, I always liked to believe there was some poor soul stuck with his In-Laws at his house hoping someone on HARO could free him from his predicament.
Every month we will be highlighting some of the better backlinks the Mad Mango Marketing team has built as of late.
Every client for whom we build backlinks is unique and needs their own strategy when it comes down to what types of links we build for them. Now, when it comes to localized service businesses, there needs to be a strong balance between highly informative, industry websites and smaller, localized sources. For this example, one of our client's largest areas of service is New York, so we partnered with a New York publication to write a location-specific guide to a related service, in this case, plant relocation.
Sometimes, it's important to think outside the box.In order to develop a whitehat backlink profile that comes across as organically developed, you need to diversify the type of websites your links come from and the corners of the internet that mention your brand.Yes, at first, a construction website might seem off-brand for a mattress and bed frame company, but after some research, there was a very real and relevant tie-in for some of their information content.
Whereas ratings like "DR" and "DA" started out as pretty decent ways to evaluate a website from a 10,000-foot view, things have gotten out of hand.
DR's should be considered ONLY when getting first opinions on a website. If you have any intension of working with a "High DR" website, dig into the metrics that feed into that DR.
This was something we briefly mentioned in the last newsletter.
Been having a lot of conversations around the lawsuit this month, especially with the circulating controversies of political Google searches showing certain biases.
We will keep you in the loop on any updates to come.
Sometimes opportunities can be TOO relevant.
I've received hundreds of emails from backlink builders looking to post content that we have either already posted, or that is far too close to our client's offered services that it wouldn't make sense to take a guest contribution on.
Take the time, do your research, and find other industries that might just barely brush up against your clients focuses, but would make sense to connect with.
For example, if your clients sell residential window tints, reaching out to another window tinting company or a tint manufacturer might throw you in the mix with 100 other businesses who have the same idea.
Instead, reach out to websites that discuss business, such as office buildings, that might not have thought about the tinting angle, but whose website could benefit from a guide to why window tints are helpful for office space energy efficiency.
Don't write off a website because they aren't a perfect fit.
