The DoFollow Club

a Mad Mango Marketing creation

Welcome to the sh*t show...

Good afternoon and welcome to the fourth iteration of:

The DoFollow Club

From recommending that searchers add glue to their pasta recipes to having one of the worst leaks since the Kardashian family in 2007, it's safe to say Google has had quite an interesting May.

With their AI results engine pulling ridiculous and hilarious jokes from Quora and Reddit and offering them as legitimate advice and a good portion of their ranking factors being leaked, the offices at Google must be an interesting place to be working right now.

But at the end of the day, Google doesn't care. They literally own the internet and that will never change. Who's going to dethrone them, Bing? That's like saying arena football will surpass the NFL because the script got leaked.

No one cares as long as they enjoy the product, and no one does it better than Google. But anyway, sit back and enjoy the memes, tips, and general SEO conspiracy theories.

Cheers,

-J

Some Backlink Humor
The best of the best from HARO each month

HARO, or Help a Reporter Out, is an online platform where journalists post inquiries for experts to weigh in on topics they are covering. We monitor platforms like HARO daily for our clients and colleagues, and we often run into funny or downright odd requests. Some are just too good to not share...

It's For An Article, I Swear!

If we're being 100% honest here, I am pretty pissed I didn't think of this.

I mean, hey, maybe there's a chance that this anonymous guy is looking for SEO agencies to contribute their most successful pitch templates for an anonymous article on an anonymous website.

But if we're being honest, this dude is a genius and has probably scalped a couple of dozen solid templates from some poor SEO's that are just scrounging around for a decent backlink opportunity. What can you say, its a dog eat dog world out there.

On a completely unrelated note, I am writing a new article and looking for contributors! Just looking for some of your best and brightest SEO templates. ;)

Backlinks Of The Month

Every month we will be highlighting some of the better backlinks the Mad Mango Marketing team has built as of late.

This month we have an interesting one for you.

As you probably know, institutions like colleges and non-profits are more likely to solve world hunger before handing out a backlink, which is completely understandable considering their reputation.

That is why in this instance, when our client mentioned to us that UCONN wrote an article about a job they completed, we ran into some roadblocks. Due to UCONN's partnerships and level of exclusivity, they were not permitted to directly link to a specific company, as it might appear as an endorsement.

With that being said, we were able to have them identify our client as the company pictured completing the job. With that in place, we will direct a link to that article from a case study on the client's website.

The hope here is that Google's crawlers will follow the link on our client's case study to the UCONN article and recognize that UCONN, while they didn't link to the client, directly mention the client's name, showing they were involved with UCONN in some capacity.

While it might seem minor, any sort of mention or reference from an institution local to your client like a college is huge, and directing a link to that page just might help Google make that connection.

Backlink Building Memes

Beating a Dead Horse

Just now realized I mention horses in some capacity in every newsletter, strange...

Anyway, I know the whole AI and Reddit thing has been harped on by just about everyone in the space and is getting old, but I figured this one was worth sharing.

I promise this is the last AI meme...

Those Monday Morning Emails

Don't get me wrong, I love link building, but nothing ruins a Saturday beer quicker than giving that work inbox a little peak and seeing the triple-digit number in the top right-hand corner...

I find that a couple of hours of work at a coffee shop on Sunday mornings helps ease the flood of Monday morning emails.

Tips to Build Your Own Links

For those who want to DIY...

The Older the Better

When it comes to authority, one factor caries weight no matter what you are discussing: Experience

Experience is typically associated with age or time spent practicing something, so a great metric to review when considering a website for a backlink in the age of the website.

There are countless tools out there that you can use to check the age of a website, but a good, free option is:

While I lean on tool such as aHrefs and others, I do still use this tool time to time!
