The DoFollow Club

a Mad Mango Marketing creation

Another day, another link...

Good morning and welcome to the Third iteration of:

The DoFollow Club

Throughout the month of April, we saw quite a mixed bag of quality links and questionable "SEO gurus" looking to pawn off some cheap PBN links. The industry also saw a very old, but relevant debate, float back to the surface; how much will links actually matter in 2024?

Thanks to input from Google employees like John Mueller and Gary Illyes, the running school of thought is that they still matter, but not nearly as much as they used to.

In my opinion, if you run a business like Google that leans heavily on a few key metrics to provide a quality service, and one of those metrics is being exploited, why not just say that metric doesn't matter anymore?

Hell, that might just lead to a decrease in websites abusing backlinks and an increase in websites actually using them in the way they were intended. Then, you're left with only genuine, purposeful backlinks, like ours 😉.

Maybe backlinks have always been a top 3 factor and always will be. Maybe I'm crazy! People always say the best information out there is what comes from the horse's mouth, but has anyone thought to ask, what if the horse is full of horse shit?

Anyways, enough of my theories, sit back, grab a mango, and enjoy all the fun stuff we've put together for you over the past month.

Cheers,

-J

Some Backlink Humor
The best of the best from HARO each month

HARO, or Help a Reporter Out, is an online platform where journalists post inquiries for experts to weigh in on topics they are covering. We monitor platforms like HARO daily for our clients and colleagues, and we often run into funny or downright odd requests. Some are just too good to not share...

Rent-A-Friend

Hey you! Are you lonely and just can't seem to make a friend? Worry not, Rent-A-Friend has just the thing! For a small fee, you can enjoy all of the perks of best bud without ever having to leave the house!

This is a HARO I came across back in March, but have been looking for a Newsletter to sneak it into because I found it way too funny.

Backlinks Of The Month

Every month we will be highlighting some of the better backlinks the Mad Mango Marketing team has built as of late.

The word of the month? Directories.

This website is a platform owned and operated by the Connecticut Office of Tourism. While there are some differing opinions out there about backlinks from directories, the are "levels to this". This website is not entirely composed of directories but rather offers directories for services specific to traveling in Connecticut, such a Limo companies and taxi services.

With most of our client's competitors having links on this page, it was a big win to get them listed, especially considering the very low volume of backlinks CTVisit has on their website.

Centered Button

Following the same trend, this backlink for our water and sewer utilities client is essentially a listing on a Baltimore plumbers directory.

Considering the website is a Maryland-focused platform and the article has already picked up some first-page keywords, the client should get some great "link juice" from this one, as well as maybe even a handful of phone calls.

Backlink Building Memes

They're my vitals and I need them now!

While this did make me laugh and I know some developers are faster than others, at the end of the day, dev teams lie at the core of any successful SEO campaign, and keeping a website's core vitals up to par can be a continuous battle.

Best Prices in Town!

Had this bad boy come in through the contact form on our website.

If you ever find yourself in need of 10,000 PBN links @ $20 a pop, this is your guy!

Tips to Build Your Own Links

For those who want to DIY...

Should I be here?

When in the weeds of link building, do you ever ask yourself, does this website make sense?

At the end of the day, relevance is a top 5 factor if your deciding whether or not a website would make a good spot for your link. Best way to tell, does the website have other articles relevant to your space.

Next time you're inspecting a site, go to Google and use the following function:

site:website.com (keyword)

This will pull any indexed page on the site that have that specific keyword or a related keyword in its content.

For example,

site:madmangomarketing.com aHrefs

will bring up every page on our website that remotely mentions aHrefs

This may be a simple trick that is well known, but for those tackling link building without the help of a service such as aHrefs, this could be extremely helpful.

Birds of a Feather

While this may seem like an obvious tip, developing a network of individuals you have worked with or do work for can be priceless.

At first, it may just seem like extra work, but that work will undoubtedly bear fruit at some point down the road if you nurture the relationships you build and pay it forward.

Who knows, maybe the gentlemen you decided to include in your article and provide a backlink to needs insight from someone in your sector 6 months down the road, he'll know who to ask!
